Obituary for Helen A. Huff

Helen A. Huff, 78, of Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024. Her final days were spent surrounded with love and prayer from her family and friends. She was born on August 4, 1945, in Indiana, to Mary Berezanski Flanjack.

Upon graduating from Indiana High School, she pursued a career at the United States Department of State in Washington, DC. It was there that she would meet her lifetime friend, love and life partner, Thomas D. Huff. They married in February of 1972 in Washington, DC. There, they would welcome their first child, Lesley. Helen and Tom would eventually return to Indiana, where they would welcome their son, James. Soon, Tom’s son, Thomas Fletcher Huff would move to Indiana.,

Upon settling in Indiana, Helen and Tom would become small business owners and active members of the community. Helen volunteered her time to many organizations including the PTA, Indiana Baseball Boosters, League of Women Voters and held many roles within the Indiana County Democratic Party. In 2001, she was honored as “Woman of the Year” by the Federation of Democratic Women of Indiana.
Her involvement in public service instilled in her a profound sense of patriotism and the value of active engagement in the democratic process.

As daughter, sister, mother, aunt and grandmother, family and friends were the most important to her. With her love, she was a strong role model, the glue that kept everyone close and someone everyone loved and cherished.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mary Flanjack, her foster parents, George and Dorothy Merrill, and five siblings: Ann Lezanic, Michael Flanjack, Joseph Flanjack, Nick Flanjack, and Mary Wahna. As well as her beloved husband, Thomas D. Huff

Helen is survived by her two loving children: Lesley (Huff) Gebel of Greensboro, NC, and James (Teresa) Huff of McMurray, PA; her three grandchildren: Emma Gebel, Layla Huff, and Benjamin Huff; her siblings: George (Mary) Flanjack of Florida and Evelyn Fister (Al) of Indiana, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Helen is also survived by her stepson, Tom (Mary Lou) Huff along with his children, Erik and (Christie) Huff, and Michael (Emily) Huff Additionally, her step grandchildren; Brennon, Karsten, Jacob, Sylvia and Ava.

Helen’s kindness and love touched the lives of many, too numerous to mention here. She will forever be remembered, loved, and will eternally hold a special place in the hearts of family and friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the exceptional staff at Moorehead Place and 365 Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Helen and many thanks to friends and family that provided support and love.
Pursuant to Helen’s wishes, a private interment will be held at a future date.
