Obituary for Mary Grace Hilliard

Mary Grace (Widdowson) Hilliard, 90 of Indiana, died Friday, December 29, 2023 at The Fountains at Indiana where she resided with her husband, Everett Hilliard. Born in Penn Run on June 23, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Harvey Glenn Widdowson and Verdie Virginia (Brown) Widdowson.

She married Everett, her high school sweetheart, June 1, 1952. They lived more than 71 years together as husband and wife. Everett has lovingly referred to her as his, “wonderful partner”. Mary always said she had the best job, being a homemaker for her husband and three boys.

She was an active member of the Penn Run Church of the Brethren, where she held several offices and taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a longtime member of Gideons International and had been involved with the Cub Scouts.

Mary enjoyed taking trips and vacationing with Everett and her family. She especially treasured the times she had with her family, notably with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Everett, she is remembered by her sons: Denny Hilliard (Patricia), Sarasota, FL; David Hilliard, Indiana; and Daniel Hilliard (Cheryl), Indiana. Her grandchildren are: Chad Hilliard (Joanne), Virginia; Shawn Hilliard (Sarah), Ohio; Annalisa Hilliard, OH; Nicole Price (Larry), Maryland; Joshua Hilliard (Reina), SC; and Matthew Hilliard (Lindsey), Clymer. Mary’s great grandchildren are: Madalyn Romberger, and Austin Romberger of Maryland; Elisabeth Hilliard, Samantha Hilliard and Jude Hilliard, all of Ohio and Joseph Hilliard of Clymer. Mary is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and the following siblings: Clair, Roy, Clarence “Jiggs” and Donald Widdowson; and Betty Dinger.

Friends will be received, Monday, January 8th from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm, the time of her funeral service, at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory of Indiana. Pastor Jeff Fackler will officiate. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks and appreciation for all those who visited with and helped care for Mary.
