Obituary for Mary Stapleton (Klyap)

Mary (Klyap) Stapleton, 94, of Ernest, died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Indiana Regional Medical Center. She was the widow of Charles L. Stapleton, who died in 1952.

Mary was born January 22, 1919, in Ernest, the daughter of the late Michael and Julia (Simshiski) Klyap.

She was a member of Church of the Resurrection in Ernest, and a former member of the Rosary Society. She enjoyed reading, cooking for her family and watching soaps. She was an avid follower of the Pirates and used to keep score at home. She was an election official at the polls in Ernest for many years.

Mary is survived by the following children: Helen Lockard of Tanoma; Betty Murray and her husband William of Homer City; Cindy Derry of Ernest; and Charles Stapleton of Ernest. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Ronald Fleck of Sparta, TN. Two siblings survive her, they are: John Klyap of Loyalhanna and Helen Balak of Johnstown. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles and three daughters: Barbara and Julia Stapleton, and Rosella Fleck. Grandchildren Michele Lockard, Ronald Fleck, John Cochran and Kimberly Fleck also preceded her in death. In addition, she was preceded in death by her siblings Michael Klyap, Jack Klyap, Anna Shulick and Betty Sirochman.

Visitation will be held Monday, August 12 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Monday evening at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 13 at 10 AM at the Church of the Resurrection in Ernest. The Rev. George Saltrik will be the celebrant. Interment will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Indiana.
