Obituary for Phyllis A. Gualtieri

Phylllis A. LaMantia Gualtieri, 97 formerly of Creekside, PA, died on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Home, Little Sisters of the Poor in Lousiville, Kentucky.

A daughter of Antonio and Josephine DiNova LaMantia, she was born on May 2, 1922 in Blairsville, PA.

A true woman of God, Phyllis was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a graduate of the Cadet Nurse Program at St. Francis Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. She retired from Indiana Area Hospital where she worked as a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Unit. Phyllis never lost her zeal for helping others. In her later years, she was often found encouraging those around her and offering a helping hand. She will be fondly remembered at her last residence, St. Joseph’s Home, for her quick wit and love of song. She cheered the hearts of not only the other residents, but the staff as well.

She is survived by her daughter and very favorite son in law, Mary Jo and Bob Horrell of Louisville, KY. Three grandchildren, Erik Horrell and his wife Leslie of Louisville, KY, Michael Horrell and fiancée Valerie Kozachuk of Chantilly, Va. and Elissa Horrell of Summerville, SC.; grandchildren, Matthew, Sophia, Owen, Lucy and Jacob Horrell and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Peter in January 1994, a son, Peter James, (P.J.) in May of 1977; brothers, Samuel, Anthony, Dominic, Phillip, James and Paul; sisters, Rose, Mary and Augustine. Phyllis longed for the day when she would be reunited with her family and rejoices today as she once again gazes upon their faces and rests in the loving arms of Jesus.

Services will include visitation and Mass at St. Joseph’s Home in Lousiville, Ky on Friday August 23 beginning at 10 AM. On Monday, August 26, Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 PM at The Church of the Resurrection in Ernest, PA with Rev. Gregorio dela Cruz Soldevilla Jr. officiating. Interment will follow immediately in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Indiana, PA.

Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, Indiana, PA is in charge of arrangements.
