Obituary for Raymond D. Porter

Raymond Devere Porter, 83, of Mateer, died at the Kittanning Care Center on May 25.

He was born October 13, 1938, a son of the late Harvey and Nellie (Flickinger) Porter. Raymond is survived by his sister Leila Kiebler of Apollo and a special nephew, Lee Porter, who assisted in his care. “Uncle Dee” will also be remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys McMunn, and brothers William and Arthur Porter.

Raymond was a quiet, private man. For many years, he rose long before dawn to drive his milk truck along dark country roads to pick up milk from various farmers and deliver it to dairies and cheese factories for processing. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1967. His time in the military was the only time he ever left his little corner of the world.

Pastor Tom Holmes of the Manor Presbyterian Church will conduct a private service in the Chapel at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Lower Burrell at 11:00 a.m. on June 13.
