Obituary for Richard Joseph Zelensky

Richard Joseph Zelensky, 78, of Indiana, died Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born in Waterman, July 13, 1940, he was a son of the late Stanley C. Zelensky, Jr. and Frances R. (Bowser) Turnbull Zelensky. He was the husband of Judith A. (Plowcha) Zelensky, whom he married 56 years ago, June 2, 1962.

Rich served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War era. After serving in the military, he was a paramedic during the early years of Citizens Ambulance in Indiana. He received his degree in Safety Science from IUP. Later he went on to become a Loss Control Consultant, working 26 years for the Continental National American Insurance Company. Following his retirement, Rich stayed active, working as a driver for Diamond Drug.

Early in their life together, Rich and Judi were avid campers. He always enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins as well as Penn State Football. He was a member of St. Thomas More University Parish.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles E. Zelensky and sister-in-law, Dona Jo Zelensky.

Friends will be received, Monday, January 21st from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 AM at St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery, Indiana.
