Obituary for Ronald R. Gniewek

Ronald Robert Gniewek, 78, of Clymer died Friday, February 9th at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.A lifelong resident of Clymer, Ron was born September 26, 1945 to the late Lewis John “Gniewek”Geneva and Mary Caroline (Ignatowski) Geneva. Ron was the husband of Connie (Galentine) Custer Gniewek whom he married August 23, 2003.

Many remember Ron for his 27 year career as the Street Commissioner for Clymer Borough. He later attended trucking school prior to taking a job with the Roehl Transportation Company in Wisconsin. He then began driving for Creps United Publishing in Indiana which is where he retired.

Having been raised in Clymer, Ron grew up as a member of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church. In recent years he attended the Clymer Christian Missionary Alliance Church with his wife, Connie.

Ron was an avid collector of antique farm tractors. In fact, he had eleven in his collection. He loved his farm, his dogs, Sammy and April, he loved living in Clymer, but most importantly, Ron treasured the love he shared with his family and friends. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Clymer Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition to his wife of 20 years, Ron is remembered by his children: Robert Gniewek, Black Lick; Rick Geneva (Nadine), Marietta, GA; Mandy Custer Hanicak (Brad), Myrtle Beach, SC; and daughter-in-law, Marybeth Custer, Clymer. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren and the following siblings: Edmund Gniewek (MaryAnn), Clymer; Henrietta Madey (Edward), West Hickory, PA and Avelene Rager, (Rod), Warren, OH. His brother’s and sister’s in-law- are: Ben Galentine (Jane); Debbie Shaffer (Beryl); Kevin Galentine; Tim Galentine; Sam Galentine; and Wendy Helman (Jeremy). Other surviving relatives include several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Katherine Maddie Geneva; his son, Harry Custer, Jr.; brother-in-law, Terry Galentine and sister-in-law, Tina Salazar.

Friends will be received Thursday evening, February 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory of Clymer, 655 Franklin Street. His funeral service will be held Friday morning at ten o’clock at the Clymer Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 690 Franklin Street. Interment will be private and held at a later date at Sample Run Cemetery.
