Obituary for Russell Loy Neal

Russell Loy Neal, 74, of Indiana, died at his home with his family by his side on, October 24, 2023. Born in Punxsutawney on September 25, 1949, he was a son of Ida (Vite) Neal, Rossiter and the late Duane R. Neal. He was the husband of Kathleen (Anibaldi) Neal whom he married February 8, 1975.

Russell was a graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School and Penn State University where he received a degree in civil engineering. He enjoyed a 35-year career as a civil engineer with PennDot. Russell also proudly served 20 years in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.

Russell could often be found tinkering in his garage. He spent time building small engines, collecting, and restoring antique farm equipment, and woodworking. Among his other interests, Russell was an outdoorsman and a lifelong hunter. He especially enjoyed hunting with his grandsons. He was very proud of his family and took every opportunity to share stories. His quick wit was a constant source of entertainment.

In addition to his wife, Kathleen, he is survived by his children: Michelle Criswell (Jonathan), Middletown, DE; Elizabeth Neal (Eric), Glenshaw; and Jessica Blake (J.J.), Cookport. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Gabriela, Matthew and Ryan Criswell and Charles, Joseph and Daniel Blake; his mother: Ida Neal, Rossiter; and his brother: Randall Neal (Pamela), Perrysburg, OH.

Friends will be received Thursday, October 26 from 3:00 to 6:00PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory, 655 Franklin St., Clymer. His funeral will be private with interment at the Union Cemetery, Rossiter.
