Obituary for Ruth C. Clevenger (Strong)

Ruth C. (Strong) Clevenger, 85, of Penn Run, died Friday, July 12, 2019 at Bethany Place Residential Care. Born, September 23, 1933 in Cherryhill Township, she was a daughter of the late Charles Strong and Goldie Brendlinger. She was the wife of the late Alex Clevenger, who she married September 1, 1956; they were married for 62 years.

Ruth worked at Robert Shaw, Indiana for many years as well as on the family farm in Penn Run. She loved spending time on the farm and tending to her vegetable garden. She also enjoyed baking cookies, making Easter eggs and watching the horses run on the farm.

She was a member of Penn Run Church of the Brethren.

Ruth is survived by her children: John C. Clevenger and his wife Vickie, of Penn Run; Shari R. Sleppy and her husband Ray, of Penn Run and Timothy E. Clevenger and his wife Tracey, of Clymer. In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren: Ashley Mathews, Joseph Sleppy; Adam Clevenger; Stephen Sleppy; Tyler Clevenger; Amy Clevenger, and Nicholas Clevenger and three great grandchildren: Owen and Abel Mathews and Jase Clevenger.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth is preceded in death by her son, Mark Clevenger, and her siblings: Robert Strong, Edward Strong, Charles “Buster” Strong, Jr., Sarah Stupic, and Jean Zagurskie.

Friends will be received on Sunday, July 14th from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home in Clymer. Additional visitation will take place on Monday, July 15th from 10 to 11 AM, the time of her funeral service at the Penn Runn Church of the Brethren. Pastor Jeff Fackler will officiate. Interment will be in Brush Valley Chapel Cemetery.
