Obituary for Ruth P McGeary (Chiodo)

Ruth (Chiodo) McGeary, 95, of Indiana, passed away peacefully May 18, 2020 at St. Andrew’s Village. She was born in Aultman, November 10, 1924, to the late Philip and Elizabeth (Dellapa) Chiodo. She was the widow of the late Victor Eugene McGeary, who died July 25, 2015, the year of their 70th wedding anniversary.

Ruth was a school crossing guard employed by the Indiana Borough Police Department for 53 years at the corner of Fourth and Philadelphia Street.

She was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church, Indiana.

She dearly loved her family; always concerned about them, traveling with them and enjoying watching them grow up through the years with all their special moments. She loved to cook and bake all the many special holiday cookies. Giving treats to our family of furry animals always made her smile.

Ruth is survived by her son, James McGeary and daughter-in-law, Pam, of Indiana; her grandchildren: Kelly Brightbill and husband, A.J. of Annville; Bryan McGeary of State College and Michael McGeary of Indiana. She is also survived by her siblings: Frank Chiodo, Lackawana, NY; Cecelia Semetoskey, Orchard Park, NY; Elizabeth Hilty (Jim), of Plantation, FL; Philip Chiodo, Jr., Indiana, and Norma Chiodo, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by siblings: John Chiodo, Richard Chiodo, Helen Hastings (Tex), Mary Dwyer; William Chiodo (Mildred), Louise Miller (Joseph), and sisters-in-law, Sara Chiodo and MaryAnn Chiodo, brother-in-law, George Semetoskey and her nieces and nephews.

“Mamaw” did have a great life and touched many hearts. She enjoyed her friends and neighbors. Family was the most important thing to her…not just her immediate…but her entire extended family too! She loved us all dearly and will be greatly missed. She will be happy to be with “Pap” again.

Due to the current Covid-19 health concerns, there will be no public service. A funeral service will with family is at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Indiana. Entombment will take place in the St. Bernard Cemetery Mausoleum. A webcast of Ruth’s funeral service will appear on the funeral home website Wednesday afternoon.
