Obituary for Steven M. Connor

Steven M. Connor, 81, of Indiana, Pennsylvania, died on April 7, 2023, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born March 27, 1942 in Columbus, Ohio to the late John D. Connor and Ellen (Morley) Connor.

Steven is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Nancy (Wiggand) Connor and by his children: daughter, Jackie Kosloskey, of Bigfork Montana and son, Craig (Khristina) Connor, of Indiana, Pennsylvania. His grandchildren are Jonah, Isaac, Aaron, Chloe, Naomi, Lydia, Esther and Joseph Kosloskey, all of Bigfork, Montana; And, Kyla and Cameron Connor, of Indiana, Pennsylvania. Steven is also survived by brothers Pete and Mike Connor and sisters Kathleen Reardon Connor, Leslie (Dane) Aynes, Mary (Lloyd) Hill, and Susan (Mark) Taggart and many nieces and nephews. Other survivors include brothers in law: Paul Wiggand, of Westerville, Ohio; Wayne (Suellyn) Wiggand, of Centerburg, Ohio; and sister in law, Linda Henry, of Newark, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, Steven was preceded in death by his nephew John A. Connor, Jr., niece Amy Passmore Wicks, brother, Judge John A. Connor, brother, Jeff Connor and brother in law Carlous Wiggand.

Steven graduated from Aquinas College High School in Columbus, Ohio in 1961. He went on to Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland, graduating in 1966 in Language Arts Ed. He received a Master’s in Ed. In 1973 from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio.

He was a hardworking English teacher starting out in Delphos, Ohio at Delphos Jefferson High School in 1966 and finishing his career at Lakewood High School in Hebron, Ohio in 2001. He was a substitute teacher for 15 years after his retirement at the Lakewood and South Western School Districts.

Steven will be remembered for his 28 year after school program called “Connor’s Clinic”, where high school boys would come up to the old Jackson Building Gym at the Lakewood School District and play basketball. Steven was also involved as a volunteer within the community as a 20-year facilitator at the Licking County Traumatic Brain Injury Support Group at Licking Memorial Health Systems. Steven also volunteered for many years at the St. Vincent de Paul homeless shelter for men, in Newark, Ohio. He was noted for helping less fortunate friends and even former students who suffered due to various disabilities and sicknesses.

Steven was actively involved within his church, St. Leonard Catholic Church in Heath, Ohio, as President of the church council, Sunday school teacher, Director of the Parish School of Religion program, Usher and Grand Knight for the church’s council of the Knights of Columbus for three terms.

Up until his late 70’s, Steven loved to practice basketball at the Newark YMCA in order to stay in shape, and he was also an avid golfer at Harbor Hills Country Club.

Friends will be received on Monday, April 17, 2023 from 11AM- noon at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory of Indiana, 965 Philadelphia St. in Indiana, Pennsylvania. His service will begin at noon at the funeral home, Father Andrew Corriente, OFM Cap., celebrant. A celebration of Steven’s life will be held at a later date for his Ohio friends and loved ones. He will be interred in Eastview Cemetery of Centerburg, Ohio at a later date.
