Obituary for William "Bill" Johnson Sr.

William Lewis “Bill” Johnson Sr., 66, of Hillsdale, died on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born, September 15, 1956 in Indiana, he was the son of the late Gilbert Zane and Norma Jean (Bartlebaugh) Johnson. Widowed from his wife of 42 years, Debra (Pardee) Johnson who died October 6, 2020.

Bill was a 1974 graduate of Harmony High School. He briefly served in the U.S. Marine Corps prior to starting a career as a gas well tender. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of East Run.

During his career in the gas business, Bill was a workaholic who maintained a very busy schedule. In his spare time he loved to go camping and enjoyed bonfires at Prince Gallitzen State Park. Following his retirement, he communicated daily with his many friends on social media. He became known by many as the “unofficial” traffic reporter and weather man of Hillsdale. Bill deeply loved his family and was grateful for every moment he could spend with his children, and especially his grandchildren. He had previously been active with the Boy Scouts.

He is remembered by his children: William Johnson, Jr. (Misty), Creekside and Justin Johnson (Lisa), Hillsdale. Also missed by his grandchildren, Joseph, Dakota and Sierra Johnson and by E. Abrams. His surviving siblings are: Chuck Johnson (Joyce), Sidman; Victor Johnson, Bentleyville; Jack Johnson (Pamela), Glen Campbell; Barb Miller (Kevin), Indiana; Terry Johnson, Cherry Tree and John Johnson and companion, Mariah, Arcadia. Bill is also remembered by his many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was preceded in death by an infant son, Thomas Alexander Johnson.

Visitation will be held Friday, September 8th from 3 PM until 5 PM and 7 PM until 9 PM at the Rairigh- Bence Funeral Home & Crematory ,655 Franklin Street, Clymer. His funeral service will be held Saturday, September 9th at 11 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Hoch officiating.

A graveside service will be held next Saturday, September 16th at 11 AM at the Mahoning Union Cemetery, Marchand.
