Obituary for Thomas Patrick Vanscavish

Thomas Patrick Vanscavish, 64, of Indiana, died following a lengthy illness Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center. The son of the late Anthony Vanscavish and Nancy (Nalisnick) Vanscavish, he was born February 11, 1950 in Spangler. He married the former Carol A. Anderson on January 16, 1987. Later this week they would have celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary.

Tom was a graduate of Cambria Heights High School in Patton. He was of Roman Catholic faith and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He retired from Greenwich Collieries after an 18 year career as a coal miner. He briefly worked at the Lowe's store in Indiana before his declining health forced him to stop working.

Tom liked to read. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors, especially bow hunting. He most enjoyed being with his family and taking short little weekend trips with his wife and daughter.

He was a member of the American Legion and belonged to several local hunting and outdoor sportsman’s clubs.

In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Ann Vanscavish, Indiana. Other surviving family members are his siblings: Anthony Vanscavish & wife, MaryAnn, Springtown, PA; Elnora Gardner & husband, William, Killingwort, CT; Barbara Enuton, Hawaii; Better Gray, Elmora, PA; Shirley Conway & husband, Henry, Mineral Ridge, OH; and Nancy Calvetti & husband, Donald, Silver Springs, MD.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings: Frances Vanscavish and MaryAnn Cattoi.

There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Wounded Warriors Project: P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
