Things To Do After The Funeral or Memorial Service

Things To Do After The Funeral Service, Memorial Service or Celebration of Life

Now that the funeral service, memorial service or celebration of life event is over, here is a list of things to consider doing within the first few weeks and months.

  • Talk with a trusted attorney to discuss estate proceedings.
  • Call the Customer Service Number(s) of any Life Insurance Companies that insured the deceased. Have them send you the claim forms needed to initiate the death benefit of the life insurance policy.
  • Make sure the name of the deceased doesn’t remain on life insurance policies for family survivors. Replace the deceased’s name as owner and beneficiary on any other existing life insurance policies.
  • Use certified copies of the death certificate to remove the name of the deceased from real estate titles, automobile titles and bank accounts.
  • Notify any business or company that was providing pension benefits for the deceased.
  • Notify your health insurer of the death.
  • If needed, re-direct or stop the mail service at the deceased’s residence.
  • Make arrangements for someone or some business to handle the chores around the home, such as cutting the grass, clearing the snow, keeping the property clean and orderly.

As always, please call us if you need help or advice with any of these tasks. Call Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home & Crematory: 724-349-2000 or 724-254-4342
