Local Obituaries & Online Memorials

Today most newspapers have changed the way they deal with obituary submissions. Many newspapers in Pennsylvania and throughout the U.S. demand a rather significant publication fee, based on word count or the number of column inches used. And of course, there is usually an extra fee for any photograph submitted with the obituary.
Thankfully, here in our area, the Indiana Gazette is one of the least expensive newspapers to place an obituary. Although they recently raised their prices, the Indiana Gazette is still one of the most affordable newspapers in our area for printing obituaries. Please review the information below regarding their fees at the Indiana Gazette.
  • Obituaries up to 6 inches long are $ 100 for the first day. If the obituary is repeated for a second day the charge would be $ 50.
  • Obituaries from 6 inches to 12 inches long are $ 120 for the first day. The fee for printing a second day of the same obituary would be $ 50.
  • Obituaries longer than 12 inches in length are $ 150 for the first day. If the obituary is repeated on a second day the fee would be $ 60.
If you elect to add a photo, it will be included in the cost that is made for the measurement. It will not be considered as an additional expense.
The average length of obituaries in our area is between 8 to 10 inches.
The Indiana Gazette publishes obituaries Monday through Saturday.
The deadline to submit an obituary for the next day's newspaper is 6PM, Sunday through Friday. We ask that all obituaries be submitted to our funeral home by 5:30 PM so we have enough time to create and format document and/or photo files that will be sent to the newspaper.

The fees listed above are the fees of the Indiana Gazette. The funeral home does not profit from obituary announcements. All obituary fees are passed on to the family or the person responsible for paying the expenses of the deceased.

Other newspapers in different towns will have their own obituary fees and deadlines for submissions.

Today, There's the Internet

Fortunately, online memorials have started to take the place of the print obituary or death notice, and our funeral home offers what we consider to be the finest example of online memorials, the Book of Memories. Created by a team of award-winning web developers and designers, the Book of Memories is intended to provide your family with a permanent place to pay tribute to your loved one.

More About the Book of Memories

Far more than a traditional obituary—which is usually published only once and has no interactivity at all—the Book of Memories Memorial Website is a fully-interactive archive of treasured photographs and stories remembered from their time spent with friends, family, neighbors and co-workers.

You'll be able to invite others to visit the online memorial, where they can upload images, share stories, write heart-felt messages of condolence, send a floral tribute to the funeral, and so much more. And the built-in social media integration means they can then “spread the word” about their addition to your loved one’s Book of Memories™ using Facebook and Twitter.

We offer the families we serve a Book of Memories memorial website with the intention that it gives you a measure of solace and comfort during the coming months. To arrange for a Book of Memories® memorial website for your loved one, call us today.
