Obituary for Betty Jean Stewart (Stiles)

Betty Jean  Stewart (Stiles)
Betty Jean (Stiles) Stewart, age 89, of Indiana and formerly of Brush Valley, completed her journey home, when she died peacefully July 21, 2016 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Betty was born November 20, 1926 in Indiana County. She was the daughter of the late Minerva “Grand”(Brendlinger) and Alonza Stiles.

She was a loving wife and mother. Betty is survived by daughter Pamela Gail Zeller and son-in-law Ron Zeller of Indiana. Also surviving are Betty and Ray’s special boys and their families – Paul and Lucinda Isenberg (Keith, Renea and Bret) of Brush Valley and Joe and Sandy Isenberg (Jodi and Kim) of Bristolville, Ohio.

Betty was the devoted wife of Raymond Paul Stewart who passed away September 2003, and the loving mother of son Drew who passed away January 1969.

She is survived by her sister in law Kathryn George, Brush Valley, brother in law Melvin and wife Miriam Stewart of Brush Valley, sister in law Anna Mae Davis of Indiana and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and great great great nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by brothers-in law Halcy George, Wayne and wife Alma Stewart, Charles and wife Lila Rae Stewart, Clarence and wife Roene Stewart; sisters-in-law Estella and husband Harry Sharp, Elda and husband Frank Findley, and Ora Louise Stewart.

Although residing in Brush Valley and Indiana, Betty and Ray enjoyed many winters at their home in Harlingen, TX.

She attended Crete Presbyterian Church, was a member of the Clara Henderson Missionary Society, and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Betty was an active participant in the Brush Valley Alumni Association and Brush Valley Senior Citizens. Her smiling face was well known in Indiana County having worked at the Brush Valley Trading Company, A&P, Foodland, and Giant Eagle.

Betty will be remembered by friends and family for her gentle spirit and loving kindness. She loved to send cards…birthdays, every special occasion, and holiday…over 120 cards at Christmas. She enjoyed drives through the country, visiting old and new friends, church dinners, and puzzles. Through her faith she was the hands and feet of Christ.

Friends will be received Sunday the 24th of July, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home in Indiana. An additional viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, July 25 followed by a celebration of life service at Crete Presbyterian Church, 25 Brady Road, Indiana with the Reverend Katie Ward Stear officiating. Interment will follow in the Brush Valley Cemetery.
