Obituary for Donald Lee Campbell
Donald Lee Campbell, age 78 of Indiana and formerly of Clymer, was carried in the arms of Jesus to his home in Heaven the evening of January 4, 2014 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Born in Indiana, PA on October 18, 1935, he was preceded in death by parents Nello Gabriel Campbell and Olive S. (Dunham) Campbell. Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, R. Ilene (Rowe) Campbell; brother-in-law, Charles Rowe and his wife Rosemary of Monroeville; cousin, Duane Powell and his wife Bertha of Indiana; and Cousin Richard Powell and wife Joan of Conneaut Lake. He was also preceded by his brother-in-law, James Rowe.
Don graduated from Clymer High School and thereafter served our country in the United States Marine Corps until 1957. His artistic gifts for making damaged cars look new again were first honed at Vale Technical Institute in Blairsville where Don studied auto body mechanics. Upon graduation from the Institute, Colonial Motors of Indiana gave Don his first opportunity to show off his unique range of talents. He also taught classes at Vale Tech until 1963 when he and Ilene opened Campbell’s Auto Body on Hood School Road. It is estimated that together they brought new life to approximately 4,000 vehicles before retiring in 2009.
Don was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Indiana and was also active with the United Commercial Travelers (UCT) organization where he served as past local and state President of the organization. He enjoyed many hobbies that included hunting, fishing, camping, and gardening. Don is frequently remembered for his sense of humor and ability to tell jokes in a manner that was rare and entertaining.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 398 Church Street in Indiana. Rev. Gregory D. Golden, his pastor will officiate. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery. The Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, Inc. of Indiana is handling the service arrangements for the Campbell Family.
Donations in Don’s memory can be directed to the Trinity United Methodist Church memorial fund or to the Visiting Nurse Association of Indiana.
