Obituary for Edward Regis Denning

Edward Regis Denning, 92, of Indiana, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the Moorehead House Personal Care Home where he was a resident. Born September 22, 1921 in Indiana, he was a son of the late John and Genevieve (Sweeney) Denning. He was twice widowed. His first wife, Mary Patricia (O’Brien) Denning died in 1975. His second wife, Rita O’Brien, died in 2013.

Mr. Denning graduated from Indiana High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theater. Following the war he returned to Indiana where he resumed his job with the R&P Coal Company as a business accountant. A position he held for 45 years until his retirement in September 1986.

Ed was always interested in tinkering with the latest technologies. He was a car enthusiast and a former member of the Triumph Club in Indiana. He belonged to the Elks Club and the Indiana V.F.W. He was also a longtime supporter of IUP arts and athletics.

He was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church.

He will be remembered by his nieces: Mary O’Brien, Virginia Beach, VA; Terry A. O’Brien, Summerville, SC; Kathleen O’Brien and Maureen (O’Brien) Dermott, both of Carlisle; Eileen (O’Brien) Sweeney, Plainfield, CT; and Erin O’Brien, Central Village, CT. He is also survived by other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Charles and J. Raymond Denning; Genevieve (Denning) Nibert Strittmatter and M. Rita (Denning) Hartnett.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Saturday, February 15th at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, Indiana. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
