Obituary for Elizabeth "Baba" Bernat (Magas)

Elizabeth "Baba"  Bernat (Magas)
Elizabeth M. “Baba” (Magas) Bernat, 92 of Clymer, PA., went to be with our Lord on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at St. Andrew’s Village, Indiana, PA.

She was the daughter of George and Mary (Fetsko) Magas, born on February 20, 1922 in Dixonville, PA., she is the last of her family.

Betty was a member of the Church of the Resurrection, Clymer and also the Christian Mothers. She was a member of the Clymer American Legion. Betty worked in Erie for the Hudson Motor Co. Detroit and Dr. D’zmura in Indiana, PA. She was a fantastic baker and cook. She also enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting, girl scouts and an avid supporter of all Penns Manor activities. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother known to all as “Baba”.

She is survived by four children, John Edward Bernat and close friend of the family, Dan Sullivan of Cape Coral, FL; Mary Beth Pontani and husband Bruce of Penn Run, PA; Frank J. Jr. and wife Mary Ellen of Ernest, PA; Beverly Vehovic and husband Brad of Northern Cambria, PA; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1995, Frank Joseph Bernat Sr.; five brothers, Albert, James, George, Paul “Patsy”, and John Magas; four sisters, Margaret Stroker, Anne Carlson, Mary Liptak and Helen Airgood.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, Clymer. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection, Clymer with Fr. Timothy Kruthaupt as celebrant. Interment will be in Church of the Resurrection Cemetery, Clymer.

The family would like to thank all of the Staff at St. Andrew’s Village for all of their love and support.

When we would say our goodbyes, we would say " I love you" and mom would say, in Polish, "Ja Tez Cie Kocham", which means 'I love you too'.
