Obituary for Helen Louise Davis (Grumbling)

Helen Louise Davis, 96, of Heilwood, passed away on September 11, 2015, in the home she loved, surrounded by her family who adored her.

Born on August 30, 1919, she was the daughter of Vallie D. and Olive (Giles) Grumbling.

Helen Louise was the long-time matriarch of her family and the loving home she created was the central gathering place for family picnics, birthday parties and other celebrations. She enjoyed watching comedy shows, movies, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. She also loved trips to the beach and shopping with her lifelong friend and sister-in-law, Eleanora.

During her younger years, she worked as a clerk in the Heilwood Company Store. She later worked for Brody’s Department Store in Indiana. She was employed as a Secretary for the Penns Manor School District for years, retiring in June 1987. She also served as the Pine Township Tax Collector for 26 years.

She was a member of the Heilwood Presbyterian Church, where she served as an Elder and Clerk of Session.

Helen was totally devoted to her family. She dedicated her life to ensuring her family was always happy, safe, and cared-for. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was “Nana”, always there to shower them with attention and heartfelt love.

She is survived by her children Margo (Don) Inskeep, Bowie, MD; Jill (Bill) Eckenrode, Heilwood; and Todd (Sandi) Davis, Heilwood. Seven grandchildren survive her: Scott (Lisa) Inskeep; Shanna (Jim) Karlheim; Leah Weiland, who resided with her; Skyler and Christian Eckenrode; Andrea (Justin Mash); and Brian Davis. Survivors also include two step-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alex Prociuk; great-grandchildren, Jacey, Dane, and Brantley Karlheim and Brody Fennell; Niece Traci Grumbling, Blairsville; Nieces Lyn (John) Banghart and Merelyn Davis; and great-niece Tara (Cody) Keith and great-nephew Logan Robert Keith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Evans “Gordon” Davis, a son, Frederick Allen Davis, brothers Harold W. and Robert G. Grumbling, nephew Rob Grumbling and her sister-in-law and best friend, Eleanora “Nere” Grumbling.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, September 14, 2015 from 2-8 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer. On Tuesday, September 15, there will be one hour of visitation at the Heilwood Presbyterian Church prior to her funeral service, which will begin at 11AM. Elder James Whited and Rev. Daniel Little (Ret.) will officiate. Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Heilwood Presbyterian Church, Heilwood, PA 15745.
