Obituary for Iva Theresa Abbey (Rhoades)

Iva Theresa  Abbey (Rhoades)
Iva Theresa Abbey, 84, of Chambersville, passed away Thursday November 26, 2015, at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana. Born in Emigh, PA on November 22, 1931, she was a daughter of the late David Rhoades and Zella (Bender) Rhoades.

Iva was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. Throughout her life she enjoyed sewing, ceramic arts, flower gardening, bird watching, traveling, and reading. She was a life-long learner and could be found most weeknights answering questions on Jeopardy. During her stay at St. Andrew’s she was enthusiastically pursing activities, such as bingo and painting, with her loved and newly found friends.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Howard D. Abbey whom she married, September 1, 1956. Their children are: Kathleen Abbey-Baker, Creekside; Michael Abbey, Altoona; and Joseph Abbey and his wife, Laura, Home, PA. She is also survived by the following grandchildren and their spouses: Eric Forsythe & wife, Beth; Heather LaVan & husband, Nate; Matthew Baker; Mitch Baker & partner, Ryan; Amanda Leighty; JoAnn Abbey; and Joseph Abbey, Jr. Iva’s surviving great grandchildren are: Sophia Forsythe; Elise Baker; Isaiah LaVan; and Autumn & Owen Forsythe. Also surviving is her former son-in-law, Randy Forsythe.

In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Gene Baker.

A private family burial will take place at a time to be determined.
