Obituary for Jennifer Gettys Parent
Jennifer Louise (Gettys) Parent, 57, of Houston TX, formerly of Johnstown, died Sunday October 13, 2013 after a brief illness. Born March 5, 1956 in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late William Phillip and Mary Jane (Davis) Gettys.
Jennifer was a 1974 graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School. She was a member of the Johnstown Figure Skating Club for many years and appeared as one of the ice dancers in the movie “Slap Shot”.
Jennifer spent most of her adult life living and working in Houston, Texas. She was an avid tennis player and a fan of the sport. She and her husband Curtis were enthusiastic walkers, logging over 1,000 miles per year for many years. They also enjoyed bird watching and were volunteer Park Rangers in Houston.
She loved her hometown of Johnstown and enjoyed getting a sub at Clark’s Corner Store and hiking with her brothers in Stackhouse Park. She also loved the town of Ligonier and particularly loved the old road between the Pie Shoppe in Laughlintown and Waterford.
She will be sadly missed by many old friends, including Cindy, Kim, Sue, Collette, Jill and many others from her years in Johnstown, as well as her many friends in Houston.
Jennifer is survived by her husband, Curtis Parent, Houston, TX and her step-children Camille and Walker. She is also survived by her brother Roger P. Gettys and his family Robin and Riley and by her brother James P. and his wife Helen L. (Vickery) Gettys and their son James P. Gettys, Jr., all of Johnstown.
There are no local services scheduled at this time.
