Obituary for John S. Harper

John St.Clair Harper, 89, of Indiana, formerly of Clymer, died, Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Scenery Hill Nursing Home, Indiana. Born December 28, 1925 in Clymer, he was a son of the late William N. Harper and Jessie (St. Clair) Harper. He was widowed from his three wives, Olive Hepler Harper, Mae Ruth Rumgay Harper and Jean Pettica Harper.

A graduate of Clymer High School, John became an office manager for Conrail. His career spanned more than twenty-five years. During that time he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, Amtrak and Conrail.

He was a World War II Veteran having served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Yorktown. John always looked forward to the annual reunion with his fellow sailors on the Yorktown.

He was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan. He enjoyed bowling and had previously belonged to several bowling leagues. Following his retirement he enjoyed traveling. He also volunteered at the Indiana Regional Medical Center.

He is survived by his two sons: Ronald Harper, LasCruces, NM and Dennis Harper & wife, Sheryl, Noblesville, IN. He is also survived by his brother, Ronald Harper, Clymer and by his numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wives and parents, John was preceded in death by the following siblings: Evelyn Long; George Harper; Dorothy DiFilippo; William Harper and Betty Myers.

Friends will be received Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer. A second visitation will be held Saturday morning from eleven o’clock until 1:00 PM at the funeral home. John’s funeral service will follow the visitation. Interment will be in the Penn Lincoln Memorial Park, Irwin.
