Obituary for Julius E. Silveri

Mr. Julius Silveri, 89, of Indiana, PA, died Friday, August 7, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born, March 14, 1925 in Lucerne Mines, he was a son of the late Emilio Silveri and Marguerite (Gambuchi) Silveri. He married the former, Gladys Viola Peterman, August 28, 1947. This month would have been their 67th wedding anniversary.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class. He was active in both the European and Pacific Theaters.

Julius had a 43 year career as a coal miner, specifically, as an electrician and mechanic. He worked for the R&P Coal Company and the North American Coal Company, retiring in 1983.

He enjoyed hunting and working on his tractors. He especially liked to travel with his wife, Gladys. They visited nearly every state in the continental United States. He also had a very special place in his heart for his loving dog, Pete.

Julius was a founding member of the Red Barn Sportsman’s Club. He was a member of the Homer City American Legion Post 493 and the UMWA Local 488.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Donald Silveri and wife, Mary, Indiana. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Timothy Grigas & wife, Kristy, Pittsburgh; and Jodie Grigas & her fiancé, Michael Cadile, Indiana. His great grandson is: Kaden Grigas, Pittsburgh. Other survivors include his brother, Clyde Silveri and wife, Isabel, Homer City and Sister-In-Law, Catherine Silveri, Homer City.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Judy Grigas. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Walter, Sparten and Niles Silveri and, Ecla Raymond.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday afternoon at one o’clock at the St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, Indiana. Entombment will be made in the St, Bernard Mausoleum.
