Obituary for Michael "Sam" Holuta

Michael "Sam"  Holuta
Michael “Sam” Holuta, 90 of Indiana, formerly of Clymer, died Friday, January 15th , 2016 at the Bethany Place Residential Care Center, Indiana.

Born in Heilwood on August 24, 1925, he was the son of the late Peter and Julia (Turko) Holuta.

He attended school in Heilwood , PA. Michael was a World War II Veteran where he served on the USS Kearny, as a gunner and a barber. He worked as an assembler at Greensteel until he retired.

Michael was a commander of the American Legion in Heilwood for many years and a member for 68 years. He was a member of St. Michael’s Orthodox Greek Church, Clymer. He served the church for many years as caretaker for the cemetery. He loved to hunt, fish, and do woodworking.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Kochman) Holuta; his daughter, Rosalie Goodyear and husband Richard of Salisbury, MD; three grandsons, Douglas Goodyear and wife Melissa of Salisbury, MD; Joshua Goodyear and wife Jessica of Baltimore, MD; and Stephen Goodyear of Salisbury, MD; and three great-granddaughters, Sophia, Kaylen and Lily Goodyear all of Salisbury, MD.

He will also be remembered by his sisters, Julia Galla of Heilwood, PA; Helen Trynovich of Vitondale, PA; Betty Davis of Rising Sun, MD; a very special nephew, Curtis Galla of Heilwood, PA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, John, Peter Jr., Joe, George, Charles, Ann, Mary, and Dorothy.

Friends will be received Sunday, January 17th from 3-5 PM at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home of Clymer with a panachida at 5 p.m. His funeral service will be held Monday, January 18th at 10 am at St. Michael Orthodox Greek Church, Clymer with the Very Rev. Matthew Conjelko, officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Michael church cemetery, Clymer with military rites provided by Clymer American Legion Post 222.
