Obituary for Nancy Jean Berkey (Cober)

Nancy Jean  Berkey (Cober)
Nancy Jean (Cober) Berkey, 82, of Shippensburg, PA., formerly of Johnstown, PA., passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at Shippensburg Health Care Center.

She was the daughter of Leo Gilbert and Arminta (Albright) Cober born on May 22, 1931 in Cumberland, MD.

Jean was a member of the Ridge Church of the Brethren in Shippensburg were she attended the Men’s and Women’s Bible Class and the Jolly Seniors. While living in Johnstown Jean served as a Deaconess at the Roxbury Church of the Brethren for 26 years. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Alton L. Berkey of Shippensburg; four children, Linda and husband Reid Pletcher of Shippensburg; Wayne and wife Joyce of Johnstown Daniel and wife Lynn of Clymer; Corey and wife Dawn of Shippensburg; one sister, Peggy and husband Jay Ankeny of Somerset; one brother Doug Cober and wife Jeanne of Johnstown; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; one son Gary; two sisters, Brenda Hropovich and Margorie Singer and infant twin grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Friday, September 20, 2013 from 11 a.m. until the time of her service at noon at the Ridge Church of the Brethren in Shippensburg. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery. The Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, Clymer, PA., is in charge of the arrangements.
