Obituary for Patrick "Pat" Bence

Patrick "Pat"  Bence
Patrick “Pat” Bence, 61, of Clymer, PA., passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at his home.
He was the son of Carl and Eunice (Helman) Bence, born on May 27, 1952 in Indiana, PA.

Pat was a graduate of Penns Manor High School and Slippery Rock State College, where he was a Health and Physical Education Major. He was an avid athlete, who loved the game of basketball. Over the years, Pat enjoyed coaching and watching his children excel in athletics.

Pat was a teacher and coach of boys’ basketball at Harmony High School, girls’ basketball at Penns Manor High School, Penns Manor Boys’ Elementary Basketball, gymnastics, and Clymer Little League. He was instrumental in the renovation of the Clymer Little League Field. He was a musician and enjoyed giving guitar lessons. Pat served on the Clymer Borough Council as president, the Clymer Days Committee, and on the Penns Manor School Board. Pat worked in the family business, Clymer Furniture, was employed with R&P Coal Company, and serviced furnaces for Accent Fuels of Homer City. As a displaced miner, he decided to open his own business, Bence’s Maytag, and then Clymer Laundry.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jean (Beilchick) Bence of Clymer; his mother, Eunice (Helman) Bence of Indiana; three children, Christie Stewart and husband Chris of GA; Shane Bence of Clymer; Caitlyn Bence of Slippery Rock; one brother, Michael Bence and wife Christine of Clymer; father-in-law, Paul Beilchick of Heilwood; two brother-in-laws, Ronald Beilchick and wife Antionette; Daniel Beilchick and wife Patricia both of Heilwood; one sister-in-law, Christine King and husband Murray of Marion Center; and many nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by his father, Carl Bence, and mother–in-law, Ann Beilchick.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, Clymer, with his funeral service following at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Spiker officiating. Interment will be private.
