Obituary for Shirley Matthis Chase (Kerr)

Shirley Matthis Chase, 80 of Indiana Pa. formerly of Mentor, Passed away peacefully at her childhood home, The Single Tree Farm on November 2nd, 2015.

She was born August 21, 1935 in Indiana Pa. to George and Mildred Kerr. She graduated from Indiana High School in 1953.

Shirley was married to William E. Matthis and had 3 sons, Marc (Donna) of Willoughby, The Rev. Martin E. Matthis (Chaplain Major U.S. Army Ret.) (Linda) and David of Mentor.

In addition to her sons she is survived by grandchildren, The Rev. Christopher Matthis (Lisa), Kirsten L.P.A. (Mike) Bonfanti and Lawrence Matthis, Great grandchildren Benjamin and Michael Matthis, Mason and Julia Bonfanti, Her sister Barbara Kepko and Niece Alicia L. Hall with whom Shirley shared her home.

Shirley worked for the Lake County Commissioners. After her marriage to the Rev. Paul Chase she became a Minister and along with Paul performed many Marriages in the Lake and Geauga County areas. She was a spiritual soul who enjoyed being “Mom” and “Grandma” to the generations of guests and friends who visited The Single Tree Farm and Keg Mountain on Five Points Rd. over the last 43 yrs. She loved all things in the natural world.

She is preceded in death by her parents George and Mildred Kerr her brother George R. Kerr Jr. and her husband the Rev. Paul Chase.

A private memorial service will be held this spring or summer at Marc’s Place on Keg Mt. The Rev.’s Martin Matthis, Christopher Matthis, and Theodore Stuchell will officiate.
