Obituary for Sophia Bowman (Mazzarella)
Sophia Gordon (Mazzarella) Bowman, of Indiana, died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Beacon Ridge Nursing Home. She was the wife of Robert L. Bowman, whom she married on June 26, 1948.
Sophia was born May 20, 1929 in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late James and Jennie (Oliveri) Mazzarella.
She worked for Bell Telephone, as an operator, for a short time before Deborah was born, then became a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed reading, listening to polkas and watching western movies and television shows.
She was a member of First Christian Church of Indiana.
Sophia is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert Lee Bowman; her children, Deborah Henry and her husband Paul, of Homer City; Robert M. Bowman, of Indiana; and Scott A. Bowman and his wife, Aileen, of Indiana. She is also survived by her brother Cadmus Mazzarella, of Philadelphia. Two granddaughters survive her, Tammie Bryer and Stephanie Varner, both of Homer City. Her great-grandchildren are Laci Bryer, Leah Bryer, Adrionna Varner and Noah Varner.
She was preceded in death by her parents and eleven siblings.
Friends will be received at Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, of Indiana on Wednesday, December 7th from noon until 2PM. Her funeral will be held at the funeral home at 2PM, officiated by Rev. Jerry Hoch. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the First Christian Church of Indiana, 500 Water St. Indiana, PA 15701.
