Obituary for Steven Shaffer

Steven D. Shaffer, 59, of Indiana, PA and formerly of Sigel, died Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born in Brookville on August 28, 1954, he was a son of the late Robert E. Shaffer and Dolores L. (Coon) Shaffer.
He was a graduate of the Brookville Area High School. Steve was a plumber for 20 years at Clarion University of PA where he was active with AFSCME Council 13. He was then employed as a union representative for AFSCME. Through his union affiliation, Steve was an active member of the Democratic party.
“Big Mole” was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He was adventurous and enjoyed traveling. Steve also enjoyed playing cards and league bowling. Most importantly, he loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Steve will be remembered by his children: Keegan Shaffer, Knox, and Karla Shaffer, Indiana. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Skyler Shaffer, Knox and Lydia Shaffer, Indiana. He is also survived by his brothers: Eric Shaffer & wife Joyce, Pittsburgh; Michael Shaffer, Oregon; and Mark Shaffer & wife Rosemary, Sigel.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
