Obituary for Walter B. Cope Jr.

Walter B.  Cope Jr.
Walter B. Cope, Jr. 84, of Indiana passed away on Thursday March 17, 2016 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 5, 1931 in Pittsburgh, Pa to Dr. Walter B. Cope and Marie (Riva) Cope of Indiana. In his early years he attended Keith school and graduated from Indiana High School in 1949. Walter graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and then went on to Dickinson Law School in Carlisle, PA. He spent 2 years in the Marine Corps before returning to Indiana to practice law for 56 years. He truly cared for his client, colleagues, family and friends. Walter always lived life to the fullest!

Walter was enthusiastic about sports. He played baseball in college and in the Marines. He also enjoyed playing tennis and skiing. He later coached little league and Jr. Legion. He was a positive and fair influence on his young players. He never missed a Pittsburgh Pirates or Steelers game.

Over the past year Walter resided at Indian Haven, where he was treated with respect and superb care.

He is survived by his wife Anna Mae of 61 years and his 4 children, William Cope and his wife Susan of Reno Nevada; Susan (Cope) Bennett and her husband Jim of Seattle, WA; Kimberly Cope and her husband Bill Doherty of San Diego, CA; and Brian Cope and his wife Anne of Indiana. Walter also had 9 grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parent and 2 brothers John and Douglas Cope.

The family will receive friends from 2 pm-5pm Saturday afternoon March. 26th at the Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home in Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to Indian Haven in Walter’s name or the charity of your choice.
