Obituary for William "Clair" Brown

William "Clair" Brown
William “Clair” Brown passed away on May 14, 2014. He was 87 years old.

He was born August 14, 1926. He lived in Penn Run his entire life.

He and his wife Mary would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on June 6, 2014.

Clair was a farmer for many years on the farm his grandparents owned. After farming, he worked at The Farm Bureau, then Agway for several years. He also had worked for Cherryhill Township for a time as well. In the 1970’s he began working at IUP in the shipping and receiving department, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of Harmony United Presbyterian Church, Penn Run, where he served as an elder for many years. He also served on the Manor Cemetery Committee for many years as well. Clair served in the Korean War from 1954 through 1958.

He loved being with his family. He loved going camping and he loved to travel. He also had a great love for automobiles. Of course, his favorite make was a Buick and he owned many of them. Another of his cars was a 1967 white Cadillac convertible that he drove in many parades around the area. His grandchildren always called it “Pappy’s Fun Car”. He was a kind, caring man who will be sadly missed. He always offered everyone a helping hand.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise (White) Brown and by his children: Linda Bell; Kenneth Brown and his wife Brenda; and Karen (Vehovic) Green and her husband Robert. The following grandchildren also survive him: David and Doug Bell, Bethany (Brown) Cessna, Nicole (Brown) Matko, Melissa (Vehovic) Matt, Shawn Vehovic and Katrina (Vehovic) Arduini. He will be missed by his 11 great-grandchildren, with #12 due in June. His sister Jean Dixon and brother-in-law Robert Haines also survive him, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Martha (Orpha) Brown, by his sons-in-law Michael Vehovic and Daniel Bell, and by his sister Ollie Haines and brother-in-law Glenn Dixon.

Friends will be received on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Rairigh-Bence Funeral Home, Inc of Indiana, 965 Philadelphia St. His funeral will begin Saturday, May 17th at 2PM and will be led by pastor Meg Marley.
