Donald Leroy Colahan, 66, Danville, unexpectedly died on July 25, 2013 while undergoing medical treatment at the Centro Medico Cibao hospital in Satiago, Dominican Republic. Born in Butler Township, Schuylkill County on June 1, 1947, he was the son of the late Leroy Francis Colahan and Thelma Louise (Wolfgang) Colahan. He was the husband of Marybeth “Beth” (McGeehan) Colahan whom he married June 6, 1992.

Don was a Vietnam Veteran and a U.S. Marine. During the war he was an engineer whose job it was, was to search out and identify enemy land mines. He later held lifetime memberships with the VFW and American Legion.

He was a former electrician for Bethlehem Steel’s Steelton plant in Harrisburg, a position he had for twenty years. He later owned and operated Don Colahan Home Improvements in Media, PA, a job he held for eleven years. In 2001, he and his wife, Beth opened the Cilantro’s restaurant in Danville. They operated the business together for three years until Don’s health became a concern in 2004.

He loved traveling to Ocean City, NJ where he had a salt water fishing boat. One of his many hobbies included building fishing rods. He also liked to tinker with motorcycles. Don was quite proud of the trike he built from an old Gold Wing Motorcycle. One of his passions was rescuing dogs. Over his life he had rescued several dogs and always took an active role in supporting rescue shelters and adoptions.

In addition to his wife, Beth, he is survived by extended family and friends in the Danville, Selinsgrove, Milton and Mt. Carmel areas.

A private memorial to celebrate Don’s life will be held at a later date. Please make memorial donations to the Haven to Home Canine Rescue. Their website is haventohome.org. Donations may be made by mail or by Paypal.
