Obituary for George W. "Jack" Flickinger

George “Jack” W. Flickinger, 63, of Alverda, PA, died Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Indiana Regional Medical Center.



He was a son of Lawrence and Anna (Gumbetter) Flickinger, born on February 22, 1946, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.



Mr. Flickinger was a member of the Church of the Resurrection—Heilwood site, the Conemaugh Valley Beagle Club and the AFL-CIO Local Union #926 Teamsters. He had worked as a machinist with Breeze Industries.



Jack was an avid rabbit hunter and gardener who raised beagles and loved his grandchildren and watching dirt track racing and Nascar. Jack was a loving husband, father and grandfather.



Surviving are his wife, Helen L. “Tootie” (Berzansky) Flickinger of Alverda, PA; four children: Terri Polenik and husband Richard of Clymer; Jacky Jaffre and husband Randy of Ohio; Jamie Martin of Loyalhanna, PA; Tonia Edge of Greensburg; a stepdaughter, Tracey Smith and husband Don of Alverda; three brothers: Bill “Sunny” Flickinger and wife Bridgette of Kansas; James Flickinger of Blairsville; Fred Flickinger and wife Marietta of Jonestown, PA; three sisters: Sis Lentz and husband Ron of Blairsville; Joann Spangler of Beaver, PA; Nancy Fridley of Derry, PA; five grandchildren: Allison and Alex Polenik; Janaye and Lauren Albright; Alexis Edge; two step-grandchildren: Ted and Julie Smith.



Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lawrence; and a sister, Minnie LaMantia.



Friends will be received on Wednesday, Jan. 6, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Bence Funeral Home in Clymer. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection—Heilwood site with the Rev. Paul Lisik as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery at Camerons Bottom.
