My Cousin Judy

• the oldest grandchild of Anelia and Walter Wolanin, Polish immigrants who raised six girls and three boys in Pennsylvania coal country • Anelia and Walter’s oldest grandchild • the oldest child of their daughter, Alberta, and her husband, John Skubis • sister to Carol and Janice • close niece to my father Stanley • career-long English teacher • nurturer of my love of writing • family historian who even communicated (through interpreters) with relatives in Poland • caretaker of Anelia, our Aunt Julia, Alberta, and John in their old ages • devout, life-long Catholic • a solid person of good character, the likes of which our world could use more. Good-bye for now, Judy. Say “hi” to all the relatives who passed before you, especially Carol. Enjoy finally meeting and learning the stories about whom you were curious. Save a place for those of us who remain here and help us make our way to your new home when it’s our turn to go. Until then, we’ll miss you. NOTE: The accompanying photo is dated 3/8/1944.
